Netflix adds a new ‘Downloads For You’ feature to its platform

Netflix is arguably one of the biggest streaming platforms available, new content being constantly being uploaded to the site. There is however one general problem with streaming services, that being the need to have a stable internet connection to actually enjoy your favourite shows and movies.

Netflix recognised this issue and tried to address it with the ‘Smart Downloads’ feature, which automatically deletes downloaded episodes after you’ve watched them. Now, it looks as though the company is ready to double down on the idea of downloading content instead of streaming it with its latest feature called ‘Downloads For You‘.

As the name implies, Downloads For You automatically downloads recommended shows or movies to your mobile device based on your tastes. In order to make use of the new feature, you’ll first need to go to the downloads tab on your mobile device and toggle on the Downloads For You option.

You’ll then be required to select how much space on your device you want to use for automatic downloads. The options include 1GB, 3GB, or 5GB. As Nextflix explained, the more space you select, the more recommendations Netflix will download for you.

Downloads For You is available globally on all android devices, with an iOS version of the feature coming soon.

We’re always looking for ways to improve the mobile experience, and we’re excited to make it even easier for members to discover and enjoy new series and films,” said Patrick Flemming, Mobile Product Director at Netflix.
