Front-wheel drive with a difference

If you absolutely must pilot something sensible and nominally planet-friendly, there’s no need to make it relentlessly sensible-looking as well. Peugeot decided to go the trendy route with its funky AE21 Hybrid Bike, which was given its world premiere at the internationally renowned Who’s Next fashion show in Paris.

The AE21 uses an electric motor in the front wheel, powered by a lithium-ion battery that can be locked into the frame or removed for recharging. Urban warriors will love the lightweight aluminium Clever-Case frame, which provides room for the battery, a laptop bag and – sadly essential in the cityscape – an ABUS Bordo folding lock. The design places all that extra weight centrally to help ensure optimal weight distribution for good riding dynamics and balance. And when you’re done riding, folding handlebars and pedals keep the AE21 from taking up too much space.
