Sony PlayStation has finally revealed its latest addition to the gaming family, the much anticipated PlayStation 5 during a live stream event on their YouTube channel last night [11 June].
The PS5 reveal came after a slew of upcoming gaming trailers was revealed, which included a sneak-peak at titles like Hitman 3, Resident Evil: Village, and Horizon Forbidden West.
In terms of the console itself, it looks like Sony have moved away from the conventional ‘black slab design’ made famous by the PS2 and PS3 and instead went for a more sleek and organic look, featuring a two-tone black and white design to match the look of the brand new controller.
It appears as though the PS5 will come in two different versions, a standard model with a built-in Blu-Ray drive and a slightly slimmer PS5 digital only edition.
Along with the console, Sony also showed off a variety of peripherals which included a wireless headset with 3D audio capabilities called ‘Pulse’, a dedicated PS5 media remote, and a charging station for the PS5’s DualSense controllers. It seems like the PlayStation 5 will also feature a 1080p HD camera add-on, presumably or streaming purposes.
Unfortunately, this is all the information we have to work with so far. Sony has yet to announce an official price for the next-gen console or a release date, aside from mentioning that it will be available ‘later this year’, which most likely means it will be put on store shelves just in time for the holiday season.
