Sony provided a glimpse of its first drone, the Airpeak, during CES 2021. Just as you would expect with a company that has built a reputation for creating some of the best imaging sensors around, the Airpeak is catered to professional photographers and videographers.

The drone was initially announced in November 2020, but this is the first instance of it being shown in a real world situation. Details surrounding the Airpeak are still scarce, but Sony did mention it is the smallest drone ever to made that is capable of carrying a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

Sony hopes content creators will use the Airpeak in combination with more heavy-duty cameras to capture high-quality aerial footage, instead of using the built-in camera’s that most drones ship with.

During the CES showcase, Sony said that despite having a heavier camera attached to the drone, it is still capable of “dynamic filming and precise, stable flight”. To prove how stable the Airpeak really is when its fully loaded up, Sony released a video of the drone as it captured aerial shots during a road test of the Vision-S, a vehicle Sony is rumoured to be working on.

Take a look at the video below:

The Airpeak will be available to the public in mid 2021, however, leading up to its much anticipated launch Sony will continue to test the drone to gain as much feedback and real-world information as possible, before the final version is finally released.
