As the coronavirus continues to spread, the need to wear a face mask while in public has never been more important.
However, the downside of having to wear a mask for an extended period of time, apart from fact that it restricts your breathing, is that you have to bother with constantly taking off when you want to grab a quick bite to eat or drink.
To get around this problem, along with curing a serious case of cabin fever, YouTuber DesignMaker used a 3D printer, motion sensors, and a custom protoboard to create a face mask that automatically opens and closes when nobody is around.
The mask might be nothing more than a gimmick. It looks much heavier than a normal N95 or surgical mask, and the reaction time for the sensor could be a bit faster. However, DesignMaker did ultimately end up achieve his goal of making a mask.
