After recently launching dark mode for their application on smartphones, Whatsapp web are rumoured to be developing the same option for their desktop and web applications.

According to Wabetainfo, the feature is under development and is expected to be available in a future update. Features on the app, including emojis, are still needing to be adapted to the dark mode theme.

Although it is not yet available, once released it will likely be available through the settings menu.

Whatsapp released the dark mode for Android in beta in September 2019, following which they are continuing to improve the colour and provide customisable colour options.

The latest colour options are black, dark brown, dark navy, dark olive, dark purple, and dark velvet.

According to MyBroadband, WhatsApp is also working on two dark mode themes for iOS.

Twitter user Mahesh Wijerathna posted a screenshot of the dark mode for desktop on Twitter, explaining he had been working on it for a while.

“I just saw these updates on v0.4.930 which has their signature dark color. They might release the dark mode soon,” he tweeted.
