The World Health Organisation has launched a WhatsApp health alert chat bot for coronavirus information that can be accessed all over the world.
Fake news regarding the coronavirus has been spreading despite governments’ and international bodies best efforts to stop it. The WHO are attempting to ensure people have the most accurate and up-to-date information through their service.
“Digital technology gives us an unprecedented opportunity for vital health information to go viral and spread faster than the pandemic, helping us save lives and protect the vulnerable,” said WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“We are proud to have partners like Facebook and WhatsApp, that are supporting us in reaching billions of people with important health information.”
Much like the WhatsApp bot set-up by the South African government, this chat bot requires you to say “hi” after which it provides a menu of options. It also answers questions relating to the coronavirus.
Here is how to add the WHO chat bot to your WhatsApp:
- Click on the WHO Health Alert link to add the chatbot as a contact.
- Open a chat with the WHO Health Alert chat and text the word “Hi” to get started.
This will activate the service and allow you to navigate and interact with it.
