CSIR uses algae in waste water treatment

Date:24 November 2015 Tags:, , ,

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is developing an algae-based waste water treatment system to improve the efficiency of existing pond-based waste water plants.

This comes after the 2012 Green Drop Progress report, which highlights municipalities that meet treatment standards and those that don’t, revealed several waste water plants in the Limpopo province are at high risk of negatively impacting human health and the environment.

The CSIR’s algae-based waste water treatment system is now being implemented in the Motetema District Municipality’s waste water plant.
