Device to provide safer way to treat strokes

Date:10 June 2010

Researchers have developed a new tool for efficiently removing blood clots in the brain, the leading cause of strokes. The tool overcomes limitations in current emergency stroke treatments, potentially extending the time for a victim to get help.

Insera Therapeutics, Inc. of Sacramento, California, developed the Stroke Help using an Endo-Luminal Transcatheter Embolus Retrieval (SHELTERTM) device.

Learn how the SHELTERTM device works and see it in action, removing a gummi bear "clot" from a model of blood vessels in the brain.
