It’s not all about power, torque and consumption at the Paris Motor Show. In the quirky Fiat 500, coffee culture and the rhythm nation take centre stage. The company calls its 500L the perfect expression of its anti-crisis recipe: stylish, compact yet roomy, cost-effective, versatile and well priced.
But if all that is just too mainstream for your liking, you’ll love the innovations Fiat has introduced.
Firstly, a new premium sound system developed with Beats Audio features an advanced equalisation algorithm to add new meaning to high-definition sound. If you’re not familiar with Beats – rapper and record producer Dr Dre and Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman and record producer Jimmy Lovine – you will certainly have spotted their vast range of audio equipment. It’s regarded as über-cool in muso circles.
With your jive, of course, you’ll want some java. The optional espresso coffee maker created in collaboration with Lavazza is a world-first for a standard car, apparently. Fortunately, the coffee maker uses no-mess coffee capsules instead of grinds. In due course, other Fiats will get their own shot at the espresso option.
