In April Ford unveiled its 1043 Kilowatt electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1,400 dragster. At the time of its unveiling, Ford claimed the vehicle could race down the quarter-mile in just 8.27 seconds. Now it looks as though they are ready to backed up that claim with a recent video posted to the Ford Performance YouTube channel.

Ford intend on running the Mustang Cobra Jet 1,400 during the NHRA U.S nationals this week, with the EV dragster going up against a conventional gas-powered Mustang Cobra Jet.

“Since revealing the car, we’ve continued to fine-tune it and now know we’re just scratching the surface of what we may be able to achieve with this much electric horsepower in a drag racing setting,” said Ford Performance Motorsports global director Mark Rushbrook.

While the idea of the Mustang Cobra Jet 1,400 going up against its gas-guzzling counterpart does sound like an entreating idea, a match up against Camaro’s very own electric dragster, the eCOPOC CAMARO, is the race everyone wants to see. This is especially true after Mustang claimed the Mustang Cobra Jet 1,400 managed to hit a maximum output of 1,502HP during a private testing session, according to Engadget.
