2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Aston Martin’s allure was always bolstered by the vehicular shenanigans of a certain spy. But even with 007 doing PR, sales were minuscule. In 2005, the company landed a hit, the V8 Vantage. Now, subtle but substantial modifications to the coup make the experience even more decadent.
The moment the swan-wing doors sweep open, you know you’re climbing into something special. The chic interior was clearly assembled with great care. But press the right pedal and you’re rewarded with a crescendo of power and a raspy howl from the exhaust. The 1 630 kg Vantage responds quickly to any direction. Heavy throttle with traction control switched off confirms that the V8 is more than capable of sliding the tail out. And since 85 per cent of its mass sits between the front and rear axles, it feels balanced, and able to trounce lesser sports cars. Good show.
